About Ken Mercurio:

I am a food product labeling expert (FDA regulations), with 31 years of experience at Nestle USA, including a working relationship with FDA staff. I served on several food trade association committees including those dealing with functional foods. I served on the Institute of Food Technologists' Expert Panel on Functional Foods. I have taught food labeling classes with the Food Drug and Law Institute, and been a speaker on food industry programs.

My business is simple:

I will review a company's FDA product label and point out what needs to be changed to bring the format into compliance. I know that many importers or small companies don't have the resources to get regulatory help on their labeling at the usual cost of $500 to $1000. However, I offer a cost-effective way ($75) to reduce your regulatory risk of an incorrect label format.

If you have multiple sizes of the same product, or products that differ only in their flavor variety (for example, vanilla and strawberry flavors of the same product), then the price is lower! Also, if you want me to review your revised label after you have made the changes I have suggested, the price is also lower.

If you wish to discuss new changes or alternatives to what is not correct after I have reviewed your label, that falls under "consultation" at $100/hour.

Additional Consultation Services:

I will provide other labeling and regulatory consulting services on a case-by-case basis for $100 per hour. Just phone or e-mail me to discuss your needs. For example, I can tell you if the food colors in your product are allowed. Or, if you have the nutritional values per 100 grams of product, I can create the nutritional panel needed for your particular product. I can help with whether your product claims are valid and legal.
